A Treasured Family Gem

Joyce and Chuck moved to Port Townsend in 1946 from Portland Oregon where he had graduated from Dental School and she from dental Hygiene School. This house was built in 1957 by renowned Mid-Century Modern architect Paul Kirk, who happened to be a friend of the family. At that time they already had 4 children and had thoughts of a 5th. Houses in the 50’s were much smaller and a 1400 Sq Ft house was considered adequate for a family of 7. The home was filled with high energy and laughter, and as the children grew up and left to create their own lives, they always looked forward to returning home.

Joyce and Chuck lived continuously in this house until Joyce passed in 1994 and Chuck in 2007. The mid-century architecture of this house is largely unchanged, with upgrades to the furnature and utilities to bring it a more modern feel. The paintings on the walls are the work of local painters, many who were good friends of the family. The home has stayed in the family since Chucks passing, and we look forward to sharing it with you!
